Canadian port of entry

As an international student, there are certain things you should expect when arriving at a Canadian port of entry. Here are some of the things you should be prepared for:

  1. Presenting your travel documents: When you arrive at the port of entry, you will be required to present your travel documents, including your passport, study permit, and any supporting documentation.
  2. Questions from the border services officer: The border services officer will ask you questions about your studies, your plans in Canada, your finances, and your ties to your home country. Be prepared to answer these questions honestly and thoroughly.
  3. Biometric data collection: As of 2021, biometric data collection (fingerprints and a photograph) is required for most foreign nationals entering Canada. This process is quick and simple, and is done at the port of entry.
  4. Health screening: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, health screening measures have been implemented at Canadian ports of entry. This may include a temperature check, health questionnaire, and/or a mandatory quarantine period upon arrival.
  5. Border services officer’s decision: Based on the information you provide and your documents, the border services officer will make a decision on whether or not to allow you to enter Canada. If approved, you will be issued a study permit and allowed to proceed into Canada. If denied, you may be required to return to your home country.

It’s important to be prepared and organized when arriving at the port of entry as an international student. Make sure you have all the required documents and information ready, and be honest and clear when answering the border services officer’s questions. By doing so, you can help ensure a smooth entry into Canada.
